Rekindle Brings 6 Departments Back To Back Hampden-Sydney Road
Tue. Jun 5th 2012
At 7:04am, Farmville Communications received a call that the structure involved in the fire the night before had reignited, and was burning. Company 1(Farmville Fire) and Company 2(Hampden-Sydney Fire) were dispatched to the scene. Engine 2-2, with a crew of 2, was first on scene and reported the structure was again, fully involved. Command was established by Hampden Sydney 202(Asst Chief Ralph Crawley) and tankers were requested. Utility 2-8 arrived with a 1 person crew, and started fire attack. Most of the fire was located in the basement, and burnt through the ceiling into what was left of the first floor. Fire attack was difficult due to the location of the fire, and the size and condition of the structure. Farmville arrived and set up a draft with Brush 1-4 out of a swimming pool located on the Charlie side of the structure, supplying Engine 1-2. Engine 1-2 deployed a Blitzfire nozzle and deck gun to try to contain the fire. Tankers from Farmville, Darlington Heights and Prospect started a water shuttle operation. Along with Engine 2-2 running 2 handlines, the fire was contained and the situation was marked under control at 11:10am. Units on scene were: Farmville- Brush1-4, Engine 1-2, Utility 1; Hampden-Sydney- Engine 2-2, Utility 2-8; Darlington Heights- Engine 6-1, Tanker 6-5; Prospect-Tanker 4-5, Tanker 4-6, Auxiliary 4, Support 5 for rehab, and Air 50.
