2012 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
Sun. Sep 9th 2012
On September 9th, 2012, five members of Hampden-Sydney Fire participated in the 2012 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Suntrust Building in Richmond, Virginia. 1st Lieutenant Justin Gordon, 2nd Lieutenant Danny Cooper, Firefighter Chris Pedraja, Firefighter Thomas Van Clief and Firefighter Thomas Kurtzweil went to the event to show their support for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. In the event, firefighters from all over the state embark on a 110 floor stair climb up the Suntrust Building. 110 floors is 5 trips up the building. Some firefighters wore athletic clothing, others, as the Hampden-Sydney members did, wore full turnout gear including airpacks. The event went very well for everyone involved. Other departments from Prince Edward County represented at the event were Farmville Fire, and Prospect Fire.
